A Chicago company that specializes in repairing, refurbishing, and reselling wireless data collection devices has moved its service facility to Holland and established 12 new jobs. CEO and founder Ryan Bracken cites lower health care costs, lower electricity rates, and lower real estate investments as the reasons for the move.
Carlton Technologies, Inc. still maintains a sales office in Chicago and one in Victoria, British Columbia. The wireless devices they handle include the electronic guns used at retail stores to read barcodes, scanners, and other devices. In addition to refurbishing used or broken equipment, they also sell new real time wireless data collection systems, and IBM cash register systems.
The company racked up $7.5 million in sales last year, and is shooting for $8 to $10 million this year.
“I believe we're growing because these devices are widely used throughout the country,” Bracken says. “There are literally millions of these devices and there's a need in the marketplace for our services.”
Carlton’s customers include Costco, Whole Foods Market, Luxottica (owners of Lens Crafters, Pearl Vision, Sunglass Hut), Wolverine World Wide, and a new customer, Haworth.
The company has recruited some employees from ITT Technical Institute and MichiganWorks!, and still has openings for office personnel and additional technicians.
