Gregg DeWitt, president of Data Strategy, has no trouble attracting customers to grow his business. His problem is finding the technology talent he needs to run the business. Once he finds the right people, he plans to offer eight of them the senior level technology jobs his company is ready to create. Those jobs carry the potential for each employee to earn from $65,000 to $90,000 per year.
Data Strategy designs hardware and software solutions for companies in a wide range of industries - such as healthcare, government, education, manufacturing, and retail - and helps those customers effectively manage their data. Five years ago, the firm had one employee. Now it has 26.
"It's our objective to grow the company as aggressively as the market will allow us," DeWitt says. "My limiting factor right now is more on finding the technology talent on this side of the state, more than attracting new business. It seems that with the industry and technology in the Detroit and Ann Arbor metro areas, there's a greater abundance of talent there."
DeWitt says he's looking for tech professionals who have had hands-on experience and understand how critical good execution is.
"We need qualified UNIX talent and people with Enterprise-Level storage and backup expertise," DeWitt says. "When a customer trusts us to handle their data, they can look across the table and know our people have the experience to do that."
