Exordium Consulting has come out of the closet. Literally.
Dwight and Kristy Jones launched the growing company four years ago in a closet in their Cedar Springs basement. Two years ago, they moved to a larger space at 820 N. Monroe with just three employees. Now they have seven employees, countless contract workers, and are looking to add two more full-time administration and project management positions.
The husband and wife team both had 10 years’ experience in telecommunications when they decided to launch Exordium, which is Latin meaning the beginning of a great work. The company specializes in voice, data, and network technology. Perhaps their greatest asset is helping companies of all sizes strategize how to work smarter and more efficiently, and implementing whatever technology they need to make it happen.
“One client had two locations 100 miles apart,” Kristy says. “They were dialing long distance between the locations and paying for the calls. So they started text messaging between the two, and that got way out of hand and expensive because employees were spending their time texting everybody under the sun.”
Exordium linked the two sites via Voice Over Internet Protocol, which was like calling from one desk to another. The client could monitor calls, record calls for training purposes, and track call volumes. That resulted in improved customer service and increasingly productive employees.
“When we started the business, we had 50 bucks to file the business with the county,” Kristy says with a laugh. “We said ‘let’s just give it all we’ve got and see what happens.’
This year we’re very hopeful our sales volume will exceed $500,000. We’re already on track to achieve that.”
