Fulton Innovation, a member of the Alticor Inc. family of corporations, used the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show to debut its new eCoupled technology, which allows power and data to be transmitted without the usual cords and computer ports.
eCoupled technology was “invented to enable low cost, efficient, intelligent wireless electrical power and data transfer,” according to the company’s website. The innovative technology seeks resonance and optimizes power transfer under multiple, varying load conditions and office configurations. The technology aims to make portable electronic devices essentially wireless, making it unnecessary to pack cords and physical power connections.
The technology works by transferring energy from one device to another through a shared magnetic field, pioneered through the work of renowned scientists Michael Faraday and Nikola Tesla.
“We believe eCoupled technology will set a revolutionary new standard for Intelligent Wireless Power transfer anywhere traditional power needs exist.” said David Hazlett, Fulton Innovation’s Director of Business Development.
Fulton has been working with Herman Miller, Visteon, Motorola and Mobility Electronics to commercialize new innovations in the portable consumer electronics field. The company also is currently seeking partners to enter other markets, including medical devices, power supplies, office electronics and kitchen appliances.
Nearly a million devices with eCoupled technology, representing over $1.2 billion in sales, have been sold to date.
