Web zine asks why they went, if they'll come back

Web zine G-Rad has conducted a study through online Web networking sites Friendster and MySpace of people who identified their hometown as Grand Rapids but live elsewhere now. Check it out here.

The survey asks, among other things, why they left and what it would take to come back. Most of the folks in this study now reside in Chicago or New York and here's what they want: diversity, open-mindedness, public transit and more cultural activities.

The 62 people surveyed so far are in the 20-35 age category and many left town originally to go to college. With a few exceptions, they are fond of Grand Rapids, but aren't intent on returning.

Probably the most passionate about GR is 24-year-old Joe in Chicago, a self-described professional skateboarder who says "Grand Rapids, MI is the best city in the Midwest to grow up in, and I am so proud of where I am from."
