To say that Holland-based Genzink Steel is in growth mode could be a bit of an understatement.

In the last six months, the company added 55 jobs to keep up with its growth. Its 2008 plans include adding another 20 positions to manufacture steel frames for wind turbines, and now the company has landed a $1 million contract that will bring seven more positions to West Michigan.

The new project will provide steel fabrications for water jet propulsions systems for the United States Army. The Wartsila Lips Company of Chesapeake, VA, awarded the contract on the heels of a $500,000 order Genzink will complete for them this month.

“This project represents a significant increase in business in a new market for us,” says Neil VenRegenmorter, Genzink’s CEO. “We are purchasing capital equipment and rearranging our plants to accommodate this increase in business, as well as continuing to service our current customer base.”
