Women's Health Center could bring 50 new jobs to downtown Grand Rapids

Construction of the five-story, 110,000-square-foot Women's Health Center at Union and Michigan Streets in Grand Rapids is well underway and 70 percent of the space already is pre-leased. Even with 30,000 square feet still available, developer Michael Garrett expects the businesses and health practices already on board will generate approximately 50 new jobs.

"Four large OB/GYN practices are combining to become Grand Rapids Women's Health and occupy the whole top floor," says Garrett, president of Pinnacle Construction Group. "They're adding doctors, nurses, and support staff."

Baby Beloved, which will sell maternity clothes and offer lactation support services, could also create three to five new jobs. A deli that's moving in will be hiring soon. And practices in addition to the OB/GYN clinic are hiring, including The Mature Woman Institute, who Garrett says is recruiting staff.

The Mature Woman Institute is a multidisciplinary facility that specializes in gynecology and internal medicine for aging women. They will also offer dental and optometric evaluations, and will coordinate comprehensive care between a patient's family practitioner, internist, and gynecologist.

Other tenants include a pharmacy, a fertility clinic, and a physical therapy clinic.

Pinnacle broke ground on the $23 million structure in the fall of 2006. Garrett expects to wrap up construction in June 2008.

Craig Architects designed the building and parking structure. Pinnacle Construction is the developer, one of the investors, and the construction manager. NAI West Michigan is providing leasing services.
