Perhaps following in the footsteps of local industrial giants like Prince and Haworth, aspiring entrepreneurs from Hope, Grand Valley State, and other area colleges are honing their innovative ideas and writing business plans to sell them in an effort to be named the Lakeshore's Next Top Entrepreneur.
The competition, which sounds like the local version of a Donald Trump reality show or American Idol, is being sponsored by the Lakeshore Advantage, a Zeeland-based economic development agency, and a group of the area's chambers of commerce. The top three contestants will receive a cash prize.
"We want to light a fire and get students thinking about the possibility of entrepreneurship," Amanda Chocko, marketing manager at Lakeshore Advantage told the Holland Sentinel.
"When you think of the great companies that have contributed so much to the success and growth of our community, each started with someone's creative idea and their passion to see it succeed," added Jane Clark, president of the Holland Area Chamber of Commerce. "What better way is there to honor that heritage and carry it forward?"
