Grand Haven-based Light Corporation expects to hire some 40 employees over the next two years. Fifteen of those could be on board by the end of this year. The company has marked an impressive 10 to 20 percent growth for a number of years, and is projecting 20 percent growth again this year.
Light Corporation designs and manufactures lighting for office furniture, healthcare, and industrial environments. The new jobs will be primarily in production and manufacturing.
"We’re looking for our growth to come from being involved in leading edge technology around lighting as fluorescents grow into LED designs, and we're introducing intelligent lighting with radio frequency controls," says Lynne Bosgraaf, VP of sales and product development. "With those technologies we’re looking at growing our office, industrial, and healthcare markets."
Earlier this year, the company acquired Chicago-based Jolt Lighting and moved the entire operation to Michigan. Last week, Light received an Economic Development Training Grant of over $30,000 from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to update the skills of 95 current employees and 15 new hires.
"We’re competing in a worldwide marketplace and we want our associates to improve efficiencies so they can get better and faster in their areas of expertise to keep us competitive," says Cindy Moe, human resources manager. "Our goal is to be the lighting expert in the industry, and we need to train our workforce to be that expert."
