Roger Edgren and his family lived in Chattanooga, Tennessee for three years. But they wanted to return to West Michigan. So when he had the opportunity to join Troy-based McGraw Wentworth, he knew it was right. Edgren joined the company last July and now heads up the firm’s first satellite office, recently established at 250 Monroe in Grand Rapids.
McGraw Wentworth is a group benefits consulting and brokerage firm that works with employers to design, implement and manage benefit packages for their employees. The move to Grand Rapids is part of the company’s long-term growth strategy—a strategy company leaders expect will achieve revenues of $12 million this year, up from $10.8 last year.
And with that growth comes West Michigan jobs.
“We’re budgeting for two to three people over the next 18 months,” says Edgren, an account director who will head a three-person team. “We’ll build the West Michigan team by adding a plan analyst and an account manager.”
Edgren aims to hire employees who have industry experience and can hit the ground running to build the company’s West Michigan client base.
“What we try to do is take a company’s benefit plan to the next level,” Edgren says. “Human Resources departments are being cut and they need outside help to manage a benefits program. We’re bringing what we feel is an extremely high quality model and plan to the West Michigan market.”
