Over $680,000 in job training grants was awarded this week to aid 24 West Michigan manufacturers in upgrading the skills of 1,518 workers, including 167 new hires. The grants are part of the Manufacturing Competitiveness Program (MCP) sponsored by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
“These grants help our workers upgrade their skills, which in turn keeps Michigan businesses competitive in today’s global economy," said Governor Jennifer Granholm.
Thirteen Regional Skills Alliances were formed to provide training in cutting-edge advanced automotive and manufacturing applications. The grant will support training through three area colleges: Grand Rapids Community College, Kellogg Community College, and Lake Michigan College.
