Anticipating a jump in medical startups in the wake of Pfizer's major downsizing, the law firm Miller Canfield has upgraded its venture capital and technology services by adding two new partners in Ann Arbor.
The firm, which also is pursuing new lawyers trained in biotech and intellectual property rights, announced it will help to establish - for free - select start-up companies that aim to commercialize new products and grow their presence in Michigan.
"A strong legal foundation is very important to a new business' success in accessing growth capital," Michael VanHemery, one of the new partners, told MiBiz. "Our goal is to help emerging technology companies establish that foundation."
