Michigan must "improve the innovation curve" and use the new "knowledge faster and better than anyplace else" if it intends to compete in the global economy of the 21st century, said Michigan State President University Lou Anna Simon during a recent visit to Kalamazoo.
Simon covered a variety of topics in her speech to the local Rotary Club, including the importance of building a bioeconomy, expanding the MSU medical school to Grand Rapids, and ongoing state-funding cuts for public universities.
"You can't win doing that in a knowledge-based economy," Simon said.
