WMSTI awarded $150K NASA grant to commercialize life science ideas

Thirty-six new life sciences products and 21 new patents are the result of work done through the West Michigan Science & Technology Initiative’s  Idea Cycle—and a recent $150,000 grant from NASA ensures that the work will continue.

Founded in 2004 as the Biotech Commercialization Project, Idea Cycle helps West Michigan health care providers and educators develop ideas for new life sciences products and bring them to market. The grant supplies matching funds for Idea Cycle member organizations who apply for financial assistance to develop an idea.

Those member organizations include Spectrum Health, Van Andel Institute, Saint Mary’s Health Care, Grand Valley State University and other top health care providers, researchers and educators in the region.

“As Idea Cycle matures, we realize that we need to increase our emphasis on project management and seed funding,” said Linda Chamberlain, WMSTI executive director, in a prepared statement. “This grant is focused on adding the right support at the right time to maximize the possibility.”
