GR firm opens city’s first professional podcast studio

A Grand Rapids communications technology firm has opened a professional podcast recording studio in the Waters Building. Foxbright created the studio for professionals who want to use podcasts to personally communicate with clients, potential clients, or employees.

“People who are in the services industry, in what I tend to refer to as high-touch service markets, can use a podcast very effectively, because people can feel as if they’ve gotten to know them simply by listening to their podcast,” said Rob Huisingh, vice president of sales and marketing.

The 11-foot by 14-foot studio—outfitted with Shure microphones, recording equipment and control systems, acoustic foam walls, and acoustic ceiling tiles—provides dual-channel capabilities that allow users to record two voices to accommodate recorded interviews. The podcast is recorded into a computer to be uploaded to a web site.

Studio time is available for $100 an hour. Podcasters may use the studio equipment to make the recording themselves, or for an additional cost Foxbright will oversee the recording, provide editing services, or arrange for professional vocal talent to record introductions and closings. Even with these services, Huisingh estimates that a professional podcast can be had for under $200.
