With the regional marketplace transitioning into the fast, flexible, and globally connected 21st century marketplace, the federal Economic Development Administration recently awarded two West Michigan agencies more than $200,000 to advance long-range regional planning and development strategies.
The Muskegon-based West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission was awarded more than $55,000 develop a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy for Lake, Mason, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, and northern Ottawa counties.
The West Michigan Regional Planning Commission, based in downtown Grand Rapids, received a three-year grant totaling nearly $155,000 to support economic development planning in Allegan, Ionia, Kent, Mecosta, Montcalm, Osceola, and Ottawa counties.
"Effective economic and community development does not happen by accident, but through smart planning and investment," US Representative Peter Hoekstra told MiBiz. "Continuing to build upon West Michigan's success as an attractive area for businesses and families requires long-range collaborative strategies."
