Saint Mary's Hospital received a $1 million donation from to establish a special center focused on advanced robotics and minimally invasive surgery.
"This is the wave of the future, because minimally invasive surgery means smaller incisions, significant reduction in risk of infection, faster healing, and shorter hospital stays, and less dependence on pain-relieving drugs," Saint Mary's CEO Phil McCorkle told the Grand Rapids Business Journal.
The gift, made by retired jeweler Tom Fox and family, will help fund the Tom and Mickie Fox and
Family Center for Advanced Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery, which will be located on Saint Mary's main campus.
