Grand Rapids native returns home to open medical skin spa, establish 7 jobs

Angela Gill spent that last six years in California working with cosmetic surgeons whose clients were some of Hollywood's biggest stars. She also trained estheticians in skin care techniques for Hollywood's elite.

Now she's returned to her hometown of Grand Rapids to open Renewal Skin Spa, a $1 million joint venture with her husband, Jon, which has generated seven jobs, including a medical director and three esthetician positions.

The skin spa, 6080 28th Street SE, will offer a variety of services, including, silk peels, photo facials, Skin Tyte Treatments, laser hair removal, and spray tanning.

"We'll be doing chemical peels that are 'designer' peels that are result specific," Gill says. "That's what I was doing in LA, and that's what I'm bringing to Grand Rapids."

Gill's spa is the exclusive Michigan location for the highly specialized SilkPeel, a skin treatment that is Katie Couric's favorite.

"When I was growing up, I had terrible acne," Gill says. "To be able to reverse that on somebody who's going through changes in high school or other stages of life is really exciting."

In addition, the spa is one of only two in the state to offer Versa Spa spray tanning, which can be programmed for the whole body, or just the face, legs, or arms.

Gill adds that educating clients about their skin type, the treatments they receive, and the products used is a key element in servicing her customers.

The 2,400-square-foot spa's six treatment rooms feature a contemporary décor with a "splash of India."

A grand opening event will be February 12.
