Kentwood manufacturer Surefil growing rapidly, hires 3 with more to come

In just three years, some 40,000 retail stores in the United States and Canada and 20 million customers have purchased the products manufactured by Kentwood-based Surefil LLC. And, despite today’s challenging economy, the contract manufacturer is gaining momentum.

In recent months Surefil added an executive vice president and two regional sales managers. The company’s 2009 goals are to add warehouse positions and to expand distribution to include 40 countries.

A new exclusive partnership with Grand Brands LLC, parent company of Lander personal care products, puts another 139 products on Surefil’s production line.

“We’ll be manufacturing and chemical compounding the products, as well as filling, packaging and testing them,” says Bill Hunt, Surefil CEO. “We will look to local companies as much as possible to handle the items we can’t do in-house.”

In 2006, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation granted Surefil a Single Business Tax credit of over $3.7 million over 10 years to build its Kentwood headquarters and establish jobs. The City of Kentwood granted the company a $338,000 tax abatement over 12 years.
