VAI Director will serve on national cancer board

Dr. George Vande Woude, director of the Van Andel Research Institute, recently was elected to serve on the National Coalition for Cancer Research's Board of Directors.

The NCCR, established in 1986, is a nonprofit coalition of U.S. organizations dedicated to eliminating cancer through scientific research. Developing and advancing public policy that bolsters the nation's position as a world leader in medical research and innovation is one of the group's top priorities.

“Dr. Vande Woude’s appointment to the NCCR Board of Directors is a testament to both the world-class standing he enjoys within the scientific community and the phenomenal reputation he has helped VAI build among peer institutions worldwide,” said VAI Chairman and CEO David Van Andel.

Dr. Vande Woude, who was appointed director of the Van Andel Research Institute in 1999, is one of the world's leading experts in the field of molecular oncology, a branch of medicine that studies tumors. Prior to joining VARI, Dr. Vande Woude served as a top research investigator at the National Cancer Institute. He was recently named a fellow of the renowned American Academy of Arts and Science.
