Van Andel researchers win more than $2.5 million in grants

In the past several months, Van Andel Institute researchers landed several major grants for ongoing projects.

Among them is Eric Xu, whose work on the structure and function of steroid hormone receptors brought in a $2.1 million, five-year award from the National Institutes of Health and National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Diseases.

Also getting an award was George Vande Woude from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for his novel approach for breast molecular imaging and therapy using met tyrosine kinase as a target. His one-year award was for $125,000.

And finally, the NIH and National Cancer Institute gave Brian Haab a $325,000 grant for his defining glycan alterations in pancreatic cancer project.

Van Andel Institute is in growth mode, greatly expanding its footprint with a $190 million expansion. The institute currently employs 226 people.
