West Michigan sprinkler maker adds 20 jobs and $5M plant expansion

In 2008, Hastings manufacturer Viking Corp plans to add a $5 million expansion to its East Campus and 20 jobs, according to a recent story published in the Grand Rapids Press. The City of Hastings approved a 100 percent, six-year tax abatement for the expansion.

Viking's 360 West Michigan employees make fire suppression equipment, including sprinkler systems, foam products, valves, gauges, and more.

A plant expansion last year added a dozen jobs. The future jobs include several positions from the company's Atlanta facility, which will transfer its assembly division to Hastings.

Company leaders credit the growth to a healthy commercial construction industry and to new building codes that require sprinklers be installed in locations they weren't required previously.
