Long vacant Grand Rapids historic building gets new life after massive renovation

A historic, but long-empty spot near the center of the central business district is a hive of activity thanks to a multi-million investment by a long-time Grand Rapids law firm and a local development group. Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge cut the ribbon on the 27,000 square foot space, 110-114 Monroe Center, Wednesday after nearly a year of work spanning the building’s four floors and its rooftop, where a deck was installed. The firm moved more than 100 employees from space inside the Calder Plaza Building, 250 Monroe Ave., to the building – one of the city’s oldest commercial structures.
