Many mom-and-pop retailers are working hard this season to grab some market share, giving up family time and freedom to grow their businesses.

Gina VanGessel, owner of An’gina’s Boutique at 40 Monroe Center NW in downtown Grand Rapids, has seen both sides of the shopping crush. The Greenville native is a former Abercrombie & Fitch store manager. Now she runs a small but upscale clothing boutique in an urban shopping area.
