After a rousing three-week cycle of articles from everywhere including The Rapidian-centric editorial in Rapid Growth (on the eve of their three-year anniversary later this year) and after a week of education and a week of fundraising, the campaign drive comes to a close with a very fitting ending — a community-wide celebration at East Hills’ Brewery Vivant.

To be honest, the arrival of twibbons and tweets all echoing the joys of our hyper-local publication truly is evidence of what The Rapidian’s Managing Editor Holly Bechiri is seeing as the momentum of their very first fund drive builds within all areas of our community.

“We knew that we were up for a big challenge with a fund drive for the first time at The Rapidian, and we knew we had a lot of support from our community. But, wow!” says Bechiri. “We have been continually overwhelmed with the generosity of our city. From the dozens of businesses and organizations providing great gifts to give our supporters as a thank you for their donations, to early donors starting our fund drive off strong, to all of the kind words, we’re just so glad we get to serve a city like this.”

The Rapidian will welcome the public to join them on Sunday afternoon as they count down the hours of their last day of fundraising. This year’s goal was to get 250 individuals to donate to their community news platform.

“We’re working hard to become sustainable so we can continue to provide this resource for the community, and we can’t do it without individual donations. Every little bit keeps The Rapidian going,” says Bechiri. “Our goal is to provide a place where everyone has a voice. Not only do they have a chance to speak up and let the city know about the news and issues in their own neighborhoods, but we work with them to provide access to the tools, training and mentorship that they need to help them tell their story well. The Rapidian provide a place for civil discourse and conversations — dialog.”

As an added bonus to get you out on Sunday at 1 p.m., the first 50 people through the door will enjoy a free beer token, courtesy of The Rapidian, with appetizers provided for munching while community members celebrate at this neighborhood beer hall of conversation.

The Rapidian thanks Brewery Vivant, Stellafly, Griffin Properties and all the local businesses that donated for their silent auction and the individuals who made it possible for this community celebration to happen this Sunday.
