Brownfield designation will generate 20 jobs, $2.3 million in GR investment

A new 2.5-acre brownfield redevelopment zone in Grand Rapids is expected to generate 20 new jobs and $2.3 million in investment.

Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm today announced brownfield redevelopments in Grand Rapids, Manistee and Big Rapids that are expected to create as many as 30 jobs and generate more than $18 million in private investment. The projects are receiving assistance provided by the Michigan Economic Development Corp.

The redevelopment projects announced today:

Grand Rapids: Tallgrass Properties LLC will develop a 2.5-acre site in the city adjacent to Steel Supply and Engineering for expansion of the company’s miscellaneous metals division with the help of state and local tax capture valued at $318,550. The project involves demolition of existing structures, a 12,000-square-foot addition to the existing facility and conversion of a showroom to office space. It is expected to create 20 new jobs, retain 90 and generate $2.3 million in private investment.
