Taste of Soul Sunday 2020: Black History Month gets the local treatment

For those seeking an educational Black History Month celebration that is rooted in our local culture, then head down on Sunday, Feb.16 to the incredibly popular Taste of Soul Sunday.

This annual event is oh so much more than just a sample platter of our area’s African American community’s history, as local folks share energizing art performances, powerful storytellers unpack tales of their journey, and black-owned businesses provide a delicious opportunity to sample the culinary treats of our area food culture.

This year’s event is centered around the themes of Listen, learn, eat, create, and preserve and by clicking on these words, you will be transported to a page to help you prepare in advance for your visit as you dive into these topics.

For the 2020 Taste of Soul, you will be entertained with performances by Kevin Murphy, Lady Ace Boogie, Serita’s Black Rose, and The Gospel Believers. Fans of history will gravitate to presentations by area folks from We Are LIT, Dr. Randal Jelks, the Ebony Road Players, and New Hope Baptist Live, and insights into our past from Grand Rapids African American Museum and Archives.

This year’s “taste” is featuring Daddy Pete’s BBQ, Savor The Flavor, and Flavorful Pound Cakes & Treats.
