It is my hope that during our November warm-up you were not found sitting inside.
For those who love sports, I am quite certain that if you did venture out and visit any one of the numerous city park basketball courts for an extra pick up game, there were surely plenty of smiles even if you were losing.
With each 50-degree day since, it is clear we are at the end of this warm-up. But hoop fans don’t care as this Saturday night is the return of the second season of the Grand Rapids Drive, our National Basketball Association Development League (NBADL or sometimes referred to as the regrettably named “D League”). The GRD is just one of only five teams in the Central Division and will be playing visiting team The Delaware 87ers at their season opening game.
Our franchise team started in sunny Anaheim, California in 2006 before migrating to Grand Rapids in 2014. Before it arrived here, the team was the Springfield Armor and netted the title of the worst of the NBADL.
But after arriving in Grand Rapids in 2014 and due to its model as a single-franchise "hybrid" with an affiliation with the Detroit Pistons, this year is promising to be a better year than the team’s past.
In addition, G-Sync Events would like to thank GR Drive’s president Steve Jbara & VP Wes Weir for the local franchise’s leadership by continuing to insure sports fans and their family members can experience the joy of attending a professional sporting event together without breaking the family budget. So get out and cheer for the home team. Need help? Then let the GRD cheerleaders, who are renamed for our modern era as the Grand Rapids Drive Dance Team, help lift your spirits at this nearly sold-out opening season game.
