Grand Rapids Soul Club: Detroit's DJ Psycho!

Friday, Aug. 28, 8 p.m. (doors) / 9:30 p.m. (music begins)
There are plenty of Detroit-Grand Rapids collaborations happening in our city but one of the most exciting and longest running is the creative capital exchange happening on a regular basis with acts like DJ Psycho of the Detroit Techno Militia.

Unlike other DJs who simply show up and hit the electronics to do all the syncing of their beats to create a flawless night of mixing, what makes DJ Psycho rise to the top of the best is his ability to take a song and make it his own.

"Records don’t make him. He makes them do what he wants them to do,” says Mike Banks, co-founder of Underground Resistance, a U.S. record label creating second-generation Detroit Techno recordings.

Because this is the Grand Rapids Soul Club's event with a nod to musical styles of Northern, Crossover, R&B, Funk, and Modern this evening, rest assured you will have a fun time from the moment DJ Psycho hits the stage right to the last of his beats echoing into the cool, early Saturday morning air.

This evening the bar is even going to tap a keg of Founders' Kentucky Breakfast Stout at 10 p.m. – buy your tickets early in the day at the bar to ensure you get a glass of KBS.

If there ever was a time to get out and attend Grand Rapids Soul Club, then this is your best bet for that end of the summer dance event. Soul Club DJ's will open the night's programming spinning (as always) 45's records.

Admission: $5
