VAI continues to make headway on Parkinson’s drug

Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Institute’s new study may lead researchers closer to developing a drug for Parkinson’s disease.

According to an excerpt from MLive:

The research focused on a process previously used to explain mad cow disease, in which misfolded proteins travel from sick to healthy cells. In experiments in rat models, the researchers were able to follow the process as the recipient cell allowed the diseased protein, known as alpha-synuclein protein, to pass its outer cell membrane.
