Geekdom is often bestowed upon those who worship “the thing,” and the thing that makes me scha-wing this week is the one with the best booty-enticing beat.
Yep. I am talking the return of the Grand Rapids Soul Club where those who are not afraid to showcase their best moves will trek to the back room dance floor of The ‘Scheme to be entertained by the sonic revolution with spun black vinyl soul.
The launch of GRSC in January 2012 was a chance for fans of soul music lovers to gather as they listened to seasoned favorites mixed in with rare vinyl plated up three co-creators: Mike Saunders, Josh Breuer and Andrew Christopoulos.
Thursday night, you will have another chance to purchase a cool GRSC T-shirt or a limited edition mix CD (there are only 50). Or, you can try to win a copy at midnight when a dance contest commences where your best moves will be cheered on by the masses, who will form a dance chamber for you to strut your stuff.
As for what they will be spinning, Saunders says, “Josh recently acquired a copy of Grand Rapids' own The Peoples Choice’s
Path of Destruction, while I picked up some Motor City gems at Peoples Records like Detroit Emeralds, as well as some great Marvelettes records from Grandville’s The Corner Record Shop. And Andrew, as always, discovers some crazy jams for our event.”
From the sounds of it, you can expect without a doubt that the sequel is going to be even better than the original. Let’s dance!
