I think it is easy for people to take for granted how plugged in our elected officials are in our cities It is why I nearly come to blows each time some jackoff with a remote control finds a video camera to spout off about how these people should learn how to work for a living.
As one who been appointed for two terms on the City of Grand Rapids Local Officers Compensation Commission, and often the lone voice in seeking answers about how many hours our city officials really do work, you would be shocked at how little they truly make when you consider what they are responsible for each week.
So it is with great pleasure that once again, we are able to highlight the accessibility of our Mayor to our community as he returns on May 17 to host an annual bike ride.
Not only does this give people the chance to embark on a leisurely ride showcasing a different region of the city each year, but it also helps promote the bike friendly steps we are willing to put in place for the residents of Grand Rapids.
This year is the dedication of the new Oxford Street Bridge and Trail, which will for the first time in our history the people of the Black Hills neighborhood will be able to cross the Grand River to connect to the Kent Trails and Millennium Park.
For those who wish to participate, it is strongly encouraged that you arrive on time at the trailhead (1700 Butterworth Ave. NW), wear a helmet and be in physical shape to make the ride through the Butterworth Landfill to the Chestnet Street Bridge where a ribbon cutting will take place at 6:30 p.m.
