Sarah Jean Anderson Live: High-larious Mischief & True Stories

Saturday, July 30, 8 PM
What she lacks in creativity in the title of her show, Sarah Jean Anderson Live, she makes up big-time in the debut of her third one-woman show at Dog Story Theatre.

You may have seen Sarah Jean Anderson before at one of her past comedy shows, or maybe as the host of the last couple West Michigan Pride celebrations or maybe while on tour with the Super Happy Funtime Burlesque.

Either way, if you have seen her, then you know she is hard to forget. This is because the girl is laugh out loud funny with capital L.O.L! She seriously steals the spotlight even when she walks in the room and orders her coffee as her pores seem to ooze comedy.

On Saturday night, she brings to life on stage for a special live taping all of her favorite characters from that demented 8-year-old girl to the audience's favorite sassy old senile woman who actually is quite wise (and loosely based on her musical director Dan Falicki's Aunt Nancy).

There is even a you-better-be-wearing-depends-funny 1-900 sex hotline commercial that Anderson just recorded as a way to help her pay for her divorce.

Oh, wait. Was I not supposed to say she got divorced?

Well, she did and she is finally feeling comfortable enough to talk about it in the debuts of her first-ever stand-up routine. SJA typically does sketch comedy, and this is a huge departure for her.

She began her comic career by attending open mic nights where she waited through long sets of poetry. Finally, fed up with the drivel of this crowd, SJA began to write her own poems, often creating characters that looked very close to those who bookended her performances.

She was soon given the hook by the poets and as the door hit her ass, suddenly, a local comic star was born.

SJA is a great comedian to see live, but please, no children. Any parents who bring children to this show will be sent home with candy and a puppy with a call to protective services. This comedy event is definitely not for all in the family.

Admission:  $10 ($8 in advance)
