Plans unveiled for Saugatuck's 310-acre "Singapore Dunes" known as the former Denison property

Plans for billionaire Aubrey McClendon's Singapore Dunes, a 310-acre development in Saugatuck, were revealed last week that include a 30-suite inn, marina, equestrian center and golf course.

In a private showing in Grand Rapids, McClendon's representatives presented the proposal in hopes the details will win over residents in the southern Allegan County lakeshore community.

According to excerpts from the story:

The inn, designed as a 19th century seashore resort with a restaurant and condominiums near the marina, would be the centerpiece of the project. It would go in place of Broward Marine's building that was removed in December.

"Aubrey McClendon (told architects), 'I'd like you to respect the environment, respect the beautiful dunes. I want open space, and I want you to create this in the image of what Singapore might look like today,'" attorney Stephen Neumer said.
