GRAM's director has spent her career in art

With the grand opening of the $75 million Grand Rapids Art Museum just weeks away, its director took time to reflect on the new standard the museum is achieving with the building and its collections. The museum now compares favorably or even surpasses the quality of similiar sized facilities across the Midwest U.S. 

According to excerpts from the story:

"My whole life has been spent in museums," Celeste Adams quipped as she takes a break to discuss the newest museum in her life -- the new $75 million home for the Grand Rapids Art Museum in the heart of downtown that opens Oct. 5.

"It's a whole new era for us," said Adams, GRAM's director for a decade.

GRAM will aim for the quality of "tremendous institutions" that are many times larger, such as the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Chicago Art Institute.
