The perception of the value of Muskegon’s natural resources has undergone an expansive turnabout in the past three decades, and preservation of those resources is at the top of the community’s priorities. While much clean up of formerly polluted sites has been accomplished, more is needed, and the county is actively pursuing funding to get the tasks accomplished.

On typical summer days, sailboats and fishing boats ply the waters of Muskegon Lake, cyclists ride along the water's edge and children frolic on beaches near the lake's west end.
