Demand for jet flights from Muskegon County Airport to Chicago gained momentum Monday morning after the final flight of Midwest Connect left the tarmac for Minneapolis. The need for service gave feds extra incentive to award a hefty grant for enticing carriers to the airport.

Sunday was a sad day at the Muskegon County Airport, as Midwest Connect ended its long-running commercial airline service between Muskegon and Milwaukee.
But good news greeted airport officials Monday morning, when they learned that their application for a federal grant to lure an airline to provide jet service between Muskegon and Chicago's O'Hare International Airport has been approved.
The last commercial airline service between Muskegon and Chicago ended in 2002.
