$500K athletic field renovation underway for one Muskegon High School

A $174,000 private donation and $203,000 in in-kind donations has made a half million dollar renovation of Oakridge High School’s athletic field possible. The new field will sport synthetic turf, and will be used for football, soccer, band programs and other events.

According to excerpts from the story:

Construction of a new $500,000 multipurpose athletic field is under way at Oakridge High School.

The new field, which is being funded primarily by community donations, is expected to be finished by July 1, said Ron Ruel, Oakridge's transportation and maintenance supervisor.

The district was not even considering the project until the donors approached school officials with the idea in January, Paniucki said. Initially, the cash-strapped district was reluctant to use general fund dollars to build the new field.
