With all the recent talk of how to draw tourists and their money to West Michigan, Muskegon doesn’t need to worry after last weekend when thousands of well-behaved bikers roared into town for the city’s first-ever motorcycle festival. Home run.

That’s what organizers of the first-ever Muskegon Bike Time motorcycle festival feel they hit last weekend, drawing an estimated 20,000 bikes and 60,000 participants and onlookers to the three-day event in downtown Muskegon.

The enthusiastic and well-behaved crowds were beyond expectations and left community and downtown business leaders and event sponsors screaming for a second event.

Muskegon Bike Time 2008 is already in the planning process, supporters promise. The question is how big does Muskegon want the event to get and how fast should it grow beyond three days of activities.
