In spite of Cherry Street being closed for months, shops and restaurants actually increased business through a simple campaign. And at least one new business owner was brave enough to open a shop. Now, after $1 million of street improvements, neighborhood leaders expect even more to celebrate in the future.

The construction is done and Grand Rapid's Cherry Street is open again. About $1 million worth of construction was done along Cherry Street this spring and summer. It included water and sewer work, resurfacing the street, and installing decorative lights and landscaping.
The road work made accessing the businesses along Cherry a little more challenging. Nonetheless, the occupancy is at almost 100% and ten new businesses are celebrating their openings in the area.
