The Lakeshore has seen a commercial construction boon this year with projects including nearly $40 million in new downtown Muskegon buildings and some $190 million in Ottawa County. With tax incentives in place in many areas, regional real estate experts say the trend is only going to get better in 2008.

With the 2007 commercial construction numbers almost complete, Ottawa and Muskegon Counties posted significant -- and perhaps surprising -- growth.
Ottawa County surged more than 100 percent over 2006 numbers, as of November, posting $186.18 million, compared to $83.53 million the same period the year before. Muskegon's growth was smaller -- 52 percent -- and with a much lower total figure -- $39.04 million -- but still experienced a better trend than much of the rest of the region saw.
