Restaurateur
Greg Gilmore won a two-week reprieve Tuesday from city commissioners who are
eager to see him turn an old library branch into a neighborhood cafe.
"We
are committed to bringing a quality project to the neighborhood one way or
another," he said. "Whether it's us or somebody else, we want to be
good stewards of a great historic building."
Gilmore, who
owns a chain of restaurants throughout West Michigan, posted a $20,000 performance bond
when he bought the building to assure city officials he would deliver on his
promise to open a coffee shop and bakery by July 1, 2004.
