VAI proposes $1M renovation of Health Hill’s Crescent Park

Studies show that quality of place can bring hope and healing to people, and a little park tucked away on the edge of Grand Rapids’ Health Hill could have the power, and the opportunity, to provide healing and rest to patients, visitors and researchers if a proposal for $1 million in privately-funded improvements is approved by the city commission.

Perched above downtown's eastern edge, Crescent Park offers a shady slice of green space to hospital workers, visitors and researchers who work on the Michigan Street Hill.

Officials at the neighboring Van Andel Institute want to make it a place to celebrate the survivors who are healed and find new hope in the hospital wards and research labs nearby.

To make it happen, the institute has offered to spend more than $1 million to rebuild and maintain the city-owned park. City commissioners were to consider the request today.
