A need for more space to house a growing assortment of firefighting equipment and vehicles means that one small West Michigan fire department is looking ahead to a larger facility, funded by a proposed millage increase.

Eager for the space a larger facility would bring, members of the Montague Fire District Authority board decided Thursday night that if finances and designs are in order, they could begin building as early as September or October of this year.
Montague Fire Chief Dennis Roesler and other board members voted last January to approve a millage request to build a new station, replace equipment and run operations.
