As the sustainability movement sweeps the country, leading businesses and manufacturers are discovering new ways to boost their bottom line, save the environment and, more importantly, create a whole new mindset about how to do business.

Sustainability is more than just a buzz word for many area businesses — it's a new way of thinking.

Becoming a "green company" isn't just about switching out a few light bulbs and throwing a recycling box in the break room. Instead, businesses are trying to help their bottom line without hurting the environment.

Many business owners are finding ways to both save money and help out the environment, according to David Miller of the Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven.

"It makes sense financially," he said. "Our purpose is to support local businesses and make them more efficient and effective in what they do."
