Grand Haven Brownfield Authority decision critical for proposed hotel

Developers of a proposed hotel for a Grand Haven Brownfield site have a few more hurdles to clear before breaking ground; one of those hurdles is the go-ahead for $1.1 million in tax increment financing to clean up the site and make the project feasible.

According to excerpts from the story:

GRAND HAVEN -- With the city's planning commission on board with plans for a $10 million Country Inn & Suites hotel, the development team is seeking approval from the city's brownfield redevelopment authority. Moyle Development of Houghton had planned to break ground this fall on the hotel that will be behind Applebee's restaurant, off U.S. 31. But it took more time than expected to clear up concerns of the planning commission and the city council.

The development team hopes to break ground this winter and maintain its goal of opening next summer.

"We'll push it as fast as we can; ideally, we'd like to open by summer to take advantage of the busy season," said Michael R. DeVries, a spokesman for Atwell-Hicks of Grand Rapids, the development team's engineering firm.
