Holland shop owner tired of writing checks for utilities, opts for wind energy

The push to develop ordinances to allow wind turbines for businesses in traditional business districts is just gearing up. One Holland meat cutter says he can’t wait for his shop to start saving money on renewable wind energy.

HOLLAND, Mich. - A meat shop owner in this western Michigan city says he's tired of writing checks to cover the cost of cooling his products.

Instead, Earl Bosch said he wants to make one big payment of $140,000 or so, then let wind turbines supply his electricity.

The 54-year-old owner of Earl's Meats says he paid $2,300 a month last summer to power his refrigerators and freezers.
