Montague vets proposed $15M lakefront development

Leaders in Montague seek public comment on a plan to build a gated community complete with 30 boat slips on the banks of White Lake. Planners seem to support the proposal. While some neighbors have expressed skepticism about the intensity of development.

A public hearing for a proposed $15 million residential development in Montague will be tonight during a special meeting of the city's planning commission.

The development team is requesting a special-use permit for the former Ravenswood Resort property, a 6.5-acre site along the White Lake shoreline. Mike Summers, a member of the development team who has lived on the property since 2000, razed the former resort's four lakefront cabins in 2005.

The special-use permit is being requested for a 32-unit residential planned unit development. During last month's preapplication conference with the planning commission, the developers proposed 29 homes, but three have since been added.
