With Muskegon's downtown on the verge of a building boom, the right amount of parking and best land use practices are under study as part of an update of the city's five-year economic development plan.

A five-year update of Muskegon's master plan will focus on the city's downtown and nearby lakefront, with special attention given to certain thorny issues -- like parking.
"We want you to solve it for us," Cathy Brubaker-Clarke, the city's director of economic and community development, told representatives of Williams & Works last week.
As its first move since being chosen by the city commission last month, The Grand Rapids-based engineering and planning firm assembled city commissioners, members of the planning commission and staff to kick off a process that could take months.
