The relocation of the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine to downtown Grand Rapids, projected to draw tens of thousands of students, researchers and instructors and their families to the area, could be the single most economically influential event in the city.

After years of forging partnerships and securing donations, the Secchia Center will begin to rise in downtown Grand Rapids.
Groundbreaking is today for the $90 million building, which will become headquarters for the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
"The first few months you'll see very quick and noticeable progress," said Dan LaMore of the Christman Co., which is managing construction of the seven-story medical school.
